SOURCES POLICY

Where Trace Korea's facts come from

Travel timing depends on dates and numbers that readers cannot easily check for themselves. These are the rules Trace Korea follows when it chooses, verifies and credits its sources.

Official sources first

Dates, figures and observations come from official sources: Korean government agencies and public institutions, their public data services, and official notices. Reliable reporting may give context, but it is not used as the source of a date or a number. Community posts and social media are not used as evidence.

Dates need two official sources

A public holiday, holiday period, festival or event date appears on a page only after it has been confirmed in two independent official sources, such as a government notice and an official calendar or organizer announcement. If we cannot confirm a date this way, we name the event without a date or leave it out. If a date has not yet been announced, we say so and give the date on which we checked.

Verification dates

Pages show when key dates were last checked against their official sources. Before a page is published or updated, those dates must have been checked within the previous 30 days. When an official source changes a date, we correct the page under our Corrections Policy.

Sources we use and how we credit them

  • Korea Tourism Organization, Tourism DataLab regional visitor data (data.go.kr dataset 15101972): published without use restrictions. We credit the Korea Tourism Organization on every page that uses it. How we read these estimates is described in Data & Methodology.
  • Korea Meteorological Administration observations, including daily station records and seasonal observations: used under Korea Open Government License (KOGL) Type 1, which requires attribution. We credit the KMA on every page that uses them.
  • Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute special-day (holiday) data, confirmed against official government calendar notices: used for Korean public holiday dates, with attribution.
  • Bloom forecasts from private weather services and predictions from the Korea Forest Service: these are predictions, not observations. We cite at most one or two dates from them, clearly labeled as a forecast with a link to the original, and we do not reproduce their maps, tables or text.
  • Korea Tourism Organization TourAPI: we may cite basic facts, but we do not use its photos.

Collection boundaries

We collect data only through official APIs and published datasets. We do not scrape the Tourism DataLab website, which prohibits unauthorized collection, and we do not bypass logins, CAPTCHA, paywalls, anti-bot systems or rate limits. We do not store full news articles or use material whose licensing is unclear.

Evidence records

For every figure, the system records the source, dataset, region, date, unit and the date it was collected. A source that fails to respond leaves a gap; it never becomes invented evidence.

Images

Charts are drawn by Trace Korea from the data described on the page. External images require a verified reusable license and stored attribution. Search-result images, watermarked media and images with unknown licenses are not used.
